Other Mommy (2026)

What a shame. Other Mommy had one of the most gripping, terrifying trailers of the past year and adapted from a chilling source. This plays like a parody of modern horror: more than fifty jump scares in 92 minutes, roughly one every two minutes, and few of them land. The best jolts were spent in the trailer, which leaves the film itself feeling empty, although not without moments of merit. There is an experimental attempt to play with storytelling act conventions, throwing viewers immediately into the monstrous scenario, and it is rather refreshing that the first act doesn’t spin its wheels debating the existence of the monster. As usual Jessica Chastain gives it her all in dual roles, unfortunately the movie gives little back. She alternates between campy and creepy, while the film revisits rote commentary about marital fidelity and parental fears. Audiences would be vastly better off revisiting Coraline, as at least the creepy doppelganger in that film had a discernible motive, and was augmented by an intelligent script and engaging characters. Is it the worst horror the year has to offer? Noooooo…. But the talent and resources squandered in delivering a subpar adaptation of a superior source make a compelling argument for why this film is worse than most.
